Diana is shy around new people. Of course she isn't your typical meek, stuttery shy person. If she feels anxious she'll simply remove herself from the situation, even if you're mid-sentence. Once she warms up to you though, she shows so much more of her true personality. She is incredibly passionate. If she cares about someone and considers them a close friend, she will be very affectionate. If she doesn't like someone, it's possible that she'll end up hating them with the fiery passion of a thousand white hot suns. She tries to keep these feelings in check, especially since on the streets she hated more than she loved so even though she has a big heart, she was often called heartless. Watch out if you piss her off, though. She's still incredibly feisty, as she's still pretty fresh from the streets. She throws punches before she even thinks about it.

Diana grew up in The Bronx. Her family was poor and broken, parents constantly fighting, seperating, and getting back together. There were three older siblings, all brothers, and they constantly gave Diana a hard time. It was because of this that Diana learned how to throw a punch in order to defend herself. Her father would constantly beat up on her brothers and her mother. Sometimes there would be bruises, and that's when she would see her color the most. A misshapen splash of deep purple, seamlessly blending in with the greys and whites of her brothers' skin. It started when she was 9, but of course she never told anyone. She didn't want to be hit like her brothers. The year she turned 13 was the year everything changed. Her mother left, all of her brothers left, and she was stuck with her lazy good-for-nothing father. She had never given him a reason to hit her, and so all those beautiful bruises were gone for good. She saw her color occasionally in other things when she was out and about or at school, and even though it was still just as beautiful, it wasn't the same as seeing it on skin.

Two years passed of Diana being a built in housekeeper and cook for her father, who really only sat around and watched T V when he wasn't out gambling. In those two years, she desperately wanted to see her color in bruises, acting out intentionally, ignoring his commands, burning his dinner, bringing home bad report cards and tests, hoping he would hit her and leave a mark. But it was as if he knew it was what she wanted and simply wouldn't lay a finger on her. He still abused her, but it was verbally and mentally rather than physically. Her frustration was eating at her, and finally one night while he was yelling at her, she simply walked out the door.

That night changed her.

Her apartment building was on a side of town riddled with gang activity. It wasn't hard for a person to come across a brawl. It hadn't been her intention to go out and get in a fight, but some way or another, Diana ended up in a large scale street fight, having jumped into the fray simply to release her stress. Mostly punches and kicks were thrown, but she was positive someone had pulled out a knife at one point. The whole thing was really a blur.

After police had come along and broken the whole thing up, she simply turned to leave without a word to anyone left standing in the streets. She was stopped by a hand on her shoulder. A young smiled at her as he asked her to join his gang because he liked the way she fought. She was entranced by the bruise on his jaw, easily going along with anything he had to say. After all, even though she was only 15, it wasn't that hard to lie about her age. She was a bit taller than other girls, and it gave her an advantage. Diana turned out to be the most ruthless of anyone else. Everyone believed her to be heartless because she would throw a punch so easily for almost no reason, but the truth was that she simply beat people so hard because she wanted to see her color. She had been beaten up on occasion, too, but that was fine with her. A bruise here and there on her own body seemed to please her.

Three more years passed, and it was shortly after her 18th birthday when her father finally asked her about all the bruises and scrapes. She confessed to being in a gang, and he immediately kicked her out, letting her take nothing more than the clothes on her body. With nowhere else to go, she turned to her gang leader, Derek. He lived alone in a studio apartment, and easily agreed to let her stay with him. It didn't take long for the two to end up in a relationship. At night when they were in bed together, she would obsess over his bruises. He would always ask why, and she would simply smile and say "Good night,". After another year of being with him, she felt she could trust him. When asked again why she would admire his bruises, she told him. "I can see something different in them... a color, I think."

Her trust had been terribly misplaced. The next day her entire gang turned on her, dragging her to a warehouse where they took turns shoving her down and kicking her. Derek was the only one left after everyone else had their turn and filed out. Instead of kicking her though, he left two gashes on her cheek, not wanting to give her the pleasure of another bruise. "Obsess over your own bruises, you colored freak!" Those were his final words to her.

It was shortly after he left that she was picked up by Government officials and brought to The Facility. Her wounds were dressed and she was given her uniform. For the first month she wouldn't leave her room. And when she finally did, she ended up getting in a fight with some girl a few rooms over that commented on how short Diana's skirt was. After being put in her place by the guards more than a few times, she's finally calming down. But she still hates the facility, and has no qualms about hitting anyone who rubs her the wrong way.

TL;DR: Diana ran around in a gang because she needed to release frustration and also because she could see her color in people's bruises.

E X T R A:

-Diana is a pretty good cook
-She runs into things on purpose to bruise herself.
-She also punches walls.
-She's slightly taller than most girls, and her torso is long, so the uniform seems really short on her. She wears a pair of grape-colored shorts underneath.
-She may or may not have beaten someone to death once while she was still running the streets.
-She is open for friendships or relationships. She just might not trust you for a while through no fault of your own.
